Can I get pregnant if I have sex during my period?
Yes, you can get pregnant if you have sex during your period, but you will probably not conceive at the time you are bleeding. It is highly unlikely you can get pregnant if you’ve had sex on the first or second day of your period (most people don’t usually like to have sex then anyway!). You can only get pregnant naturally once you have ovulated and most women will ovulate between 12 to 16 days after their first menstrual day, but some women can ovulate earlier. Sperm usually lasts for two to three days in fertile conditions but they have been known to last up to five days in the uterus in optimum conditions. So, if you have sex on Day 5 of your period and you ovulate on Day 9, it is possible to conceive on Day 9 because the sperm could still be alive in your uterus. |
