Week 36

Nine Months Plus

After this week, your baby has been in the womb for a complete nine months! Most babies will be delivered within the next five weeks so hang in there for the final waiting game! The worries of preterm labor are over because if you went into labor right now your doctor would likely not bother to stop it from happening!

Look at You Now:

It is common for anxious women to start going for full body massages, taking long walks, and even eating at places locally rumored to bring on contractions. The anxiety of feeling “overdue” and just being sick and tired of being pregnant make many women desperate to get on with labor. Exercise is not going to hurt and surely eating at particular restaurants is not going to hurt the baby, so it is okay to relieve some of your emotions through these hopeful tactics. Just do not go to the extreme or literally try to start labor on your own.

Swimming is excellent now because you can feel lightweight and float around to relieve anxiety and nerves. If you do not have access to a pool, the bathtub can be almost as good, as long as you fit comfortably in it!

Just stay away from the heat of the hot tub until after the baby is born!

Look at Baby Now:

There are various theories about why this may be true, but many researchers now believe the baby sends a signal to your body to initiate labor. If this is true, then the little one is in more control than you are about when this delivery happens. This actually makes a lot of sense because the baby knows more about when she is ready to come out than we do!

The good news is most babies are head down by this point, digging in for when the time does come. No need to panic if your baby is not. Breech babies may require some exercises to turn around, or possibly will need to be manually turned by your doctor.

Tips for Now:

Remember that due dates are not exact! The only way to know for absolute sure when your baby will be born is if you are being induced and the date has been set. There should be very good reasons for having an induced labor and your doctor will be the judge if this is necessary and when it should be done.
