Weeks 1 and 2

The Adventure Begins

Congrats! Your egg has successfully escaped down your fallopian tube and joined with sperm from your partner to begin the adventure that will change your life in a mere 42 weeks. At this point your baby is a teeny tiny ball of cells making its way to your uterus. You don’t even know you are pregnant, but inside your body something amazing has just taken place.

Look at You Now

It all begins 14 days before the end of your monthly cycle. One little egg breaks free from a fluid-filled sac and slides down a fallopian tube, where it waits to be fertilized. You may have noticed some subtle signs of this ovulation occurring, such as mild cramps on one side and a clear, stringy discharge. If so, this was your signal that you were fertile and your little egg was waiting rather impatiently. It only waits about 12-24 hours before it gives up and your chances of conception have passed for the month.

You have a mere 20% chance of conceiving successfully each month, and this was your time!

The very first signs that your little egg has been conceived may be extreme fatigue, nausea, breast tenderness, and if you are monitoring your temperatures you will notice an increase in temp that stays up after ovulation. Eventually you will notice the absence of your next menstrual cycle, but for right now you will likely have very little clue of what is happening inside your body.

Look at Baby Now

The egg that will become your baby is barely the size of the tip of a pin! You may not know it is there just yet, but this little bunch of cells is about to make an appearance that will rock your world, literally from the inside out!

Tips for Now

It is a great idea to start taking prenatal vitamins as soon as you decide it is time to start trying to conceive. Folic acid is especially important for healthy baby development right from the first weeks. Pay attention to your cycles, light a few candles, and relax. Your chances of conceiving go down as your stress levels rise. Take it easy, there will be plenty of time for emotions over the coming weeks.

Once you do find out that the adventure has begun, check out our Due date calculator to get an early estimate of when your baby will be making its entrance to the world.
