Week 16

Squirms and Flutters

If you have an ultrasound around this week it is possible to tell if you will have a boy or girl, though it is still just a little early to know for sure. The anxiety of waiting to know if you are pregnant has long been replaced with this waiting to know what you will have! Even if you have decided to wait until birth for this to be revealed, keep dreaming and hoping for the gender of your choice. Your little boy (or girl?) will be in your arms soon enough.

Look at You Now:

Where did that waist go? By now you probably no longer have a clear cut mid-section for hubby to wrap his arms around, but don’t worry about that! I’m sure the pleasure of wrapping his arms around not only you, but you and his baby, is far better than your pre-pregnancy waist. Plus, remember this weight gain doesn’t have to be permanent if you are following healthy eating and exercise patterns.

Pay attention for little fluttery feelings because your baby’s activity can now be felt! If this is not your first pregnancy you are more than likely already detecting that familiar little flicker of movement, but for a first time mother they may go unnoticed for awhile if you are not focused on detecting the movements.

Look at Baby Now:

You are feeling your little one moving about, but it is not all fun and games in there. He has a lot of work to do from forming nails to growing his legs out longer than his arms! His movements are getting more coordinated and he is urinating about every hour.

The eyes and ears are now in their final position and the umbilical cord is attached firmly to his belly. This provides all the nutrients your baby needs to grow, so he is securely attached to you in the closest means possible right now!

Tips for Now:

If you feel movements all over the place at this point, you may have more than one baby moving about in there! Many mothers of twins report feeling like there are arms all over moving in every direction at once.
